Govt may allow pvt radio channels to broadcast agency news
Private radio channels may be able to broadcast news sourced from agencies like PTI and UNI if the government accepts their long pending request to allow them to do so.
FM radio broadcasters hit been demanding that they should be allowed to use news provided by the agencies in their bulletins.
“The matter is still under consideration,” according to a top authorised of the information and broadcasting ministry.
The demand, existence considered by the ministry, could form a part of the phase-III roll out of FM radio stations bidding.
The phase-III of FM radio stations invitation would be rolled out as soon as the government settles the business problems and royalty issues facing several bidders of the second phase.
At present, there are around 100 FM radio channels in the country and a number of private companies hit applied for authorise to launch new channels.
Need for speed: For highways ministry
In the past 100 days, announcements have flown thick and fast, faster than actions and award of projects, but with Kamal Nath in charge there is a visible change in the attitude and enthusiasm among ministry and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials. Now, at least, there is hope more roads would be built, that too at some speed, in comparison to the past couple of years.
The expectation has been high from both the highway regulator and private contractors. Hitting the bull’s-eye after taking charge, the minister set his priorities to fast track projects that have been stalled due to procedural delays including certain provisions in the model concession agreement (MCA), by trying to bring in structural changes and speed up land acquisition. There has been significant progress on this front.
The minister even announced that anything which would work out to achieving construction of 20km of road per day was acceptable.
Undoubtedly, this target is ‘ambitious’ in absolute terms, and NHAI chairman Brajeswar Singh was being realistic when he said 20km per day could be a possibility in the next 18 months. But so far, the ministry has had its major success only in pushing for changes to make projects attractive for bidders.
UPA’s 100-day report card
Hundred days is a small moment in the life of a government. It is perhaps no surprise that celebrations are muted as UPA 2 cruises past this
UPA has made steady progress at the start of its second innings by taking some crucial steps. But it has plenty of problems to deal with milestone. The decision to keep matters low-key seems to have been wilful as the polity looks to take have quietly of how its second innings in office is progressing.
Some hype about the first 100 days was inevitable since President Pratibha Patil spoke of this target in her come to Parliament. The speech was careful in stating that the polity would move to initiate certain measures rather than environment out objectives to be achieved. Yet, the phrase was catchy and it stuck — though officials clarified there really was no such 100-day document.
There was also a sense of enhanced expectation as UPA had returned to power with a solid majority powered by 206 Congress MPs in Lok Sabha. It was felt that with the Left and allies like PMK, SP and RJD out of the frame, it might be doable to expect a more purposeful and action-oriented government. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be able to bring forth his real agenda, not one hamstrung by capricious allies.
The picture, however, is mixed. There is a welcome sense of progress in ministries like rural development and HRD, now under control of men handpicked by the Congress leadership. The stalled roads and highways programme is showing signs of picking pace. And finance is in the capable hands of Pranab Mukherjee patch P Chidambaram brings his energy to bear on home affairs. a

Market Update
This year the number of Seattle condominiums for sale has dropped lower than the corresponding period last year. This is a good sign since the last thing we need is more people putting their property into a sluggish market. In August 2008 numb
ers showed total active inventory of 1,503 which was 1.83% lower than August 2007. Looking at the numbers earlier this year, inventory was over 60% higher than at the same time in 2007. This is largely due to a number of reasons such as; a.) developers holding off on their Seattle condos projects and waiting for the market to get better in hopes of higher profits, and b.) apartments intended for condo conversion reverting back to apartments due to cost inflation, as well as c.) a number of completed condo projects turning into rental units so that developers can make some income per month.
The average price for last month’s closed sales of Seattle condominiums was $310,000, which showed a drop of 6.03% from a year ago when the average price was $329,900. If we compare the current sale prices of Seattle condominiums with the prices of two previous months this year, median prices of the condominiums were about the same around $310,000 for August and $299,975 for July. The number of home sale closing deals in September was almost half of what it was in the previous year around the same time. Looking at the market condition, not many people are ready to invest in the real estate market at the moment. Therefore developers want to wait for the market to improve in order to make sufficient profit and in the meantime they are renting out condos as apartments for monetary return.. The volume of year-over-year pending sales transactions for September was down 14.50%. On the other hand, monthly inventory has improved from 8.9 in August to 7.8 in September.
In summary, the September numbers of home closing deals indicate a modest shrinkage in inventory with pending sales still lower than last year but better than the last two months with the average prices experiencing negative single digit percentage reductions.
